Letter from Helmut Satz

Dear Rudy,

Just recently I learned that your 80th birthday, to be celebrated in May in Seattle, has in fact already passed. So I do want to send you my most sincere congratulations for this most memorable event, and to wish you all the best, good health and many more productive years.

Looking at your entries in Spires, I can only say that age certainly does not show there! And I very much appreciate all that you have done over the years, both as a colleague and as a friend. You were one of the first to realize that the future of our field is in the direction complex systems, and I remember with great pleasure our many discussions on intermittency and the like. And your books on the Quark-Gluon Plasma have certainly turned out to be the standard bible for the field.

I would very much have liked to join the celebration on May 6, but it so happens that on that day we are celebrating the 75th birthday of my wife - so I hope you will excuse my absence.

Once more all the best, congratulations, and I very much hope that our paths will cross again soon.

Yours in friendship, Helmut
